Nate suggested we go to Nut Tree Plaza today, a small amusement park about an hour away where one boy is likely to go on three or four rides and the other one (the one who suggested it) is likely to sit them all out. Instead, on the advice of many, we headed the opposite direction for Point Reyes. Boy, was that a great idea. We drove through an otherworldy fog to the first of two beaches, where Nate discovers that he loves -- loves -- to both look at and flee from waves. Jonah, as it turns out, prefers to ride out the waves (which were very cold, after all) on my shoulders. Then we drove and hiked to a second, more secluded beach, where the boys played in the sand, goofed around, and discovered the joy of running down giant sand dunes. We had so much fun that, on the way home, Jonah announced: "I don't want this day to end."
Many, many pictures:
