Poor Nate went truant today, or, in his recitation of my words, he had his "own person vacation day." Why? Because Jonah hid the car keys yesterday and then forgot all about them. So when Obdulia discovered this at 8:30 this morning, they had no way to get to school. Lovely. Luckily, she was able to find the keys at around lunchtime. One has to wonder what would have happened if Mommy had had, say, I don't know, court or something today. Life with a two year old can really be grand.
Jonah has recently taken a real liking to his old friend Babydoll. You may remember the days when the bald, bright-blue-eyed Babydoll looked an awful lot like Jonah. I'm happy to report that all these years later, the family resemblance is still strong enough that Jonah had declared Babydoll to be his brother.
They've even worked out a little dance routine.
Nate is generally refusing to be photographed these days, so one has to just take any old snapshot and make do. Here he is, refusing to pose, but looking mighty big-boy in his sweatjamas:
Before he went to sleep, Nate was asking me some questions about when I went to kindergarten. I aked if he remembered the name of my first school, and when he didn't respond right away, I gave him the first word as a prompt, "Chester..." I was hoping for "Barrows." Naturally, I should have realized that he would instead shout: "A. Arthur!"
Because I've now been trained, I asked on autopilot, "And what number president was he?"
"Twenty-one!" he answered. "But you went to Chester Barrows."
Once they were down, I of course looked it up. Apparently, even though we haven't discussed any of the presidents between 6 ("John Adams's son!") and 43 ("Nobody likes George W. Bush!!"), he knows them.
This Friday: we introduce Nate to spelling bee love. I can't wait!
Oh, do I ever remember Babydoll. Especially the time I came out of the small back bathroom in the LA house and saw "Jonah" sitting in the little stroller. What a shocker! I'm glad you have Babydoll as a little brother, Jonah. He's very well behaved.
