One really neat thing about having a little boy who talks a little later than his friends is the realization that during all those months of silence, he really was listening and absorbing and learning. Today we were watching a video where some kids showed up in party hats, and as soon as they came on screen, Nate exclaimed, " Birthday!" I can't even remember the last time we saw anyone in a party hat, other than the last time we looked at the photo album with the pictures from Nate's first birthday. Which was quite a while ago. Which means that even though he wasn't saying anything at the time, when he saw the picture of himself in a fancy hat, and I said, "Nate wore a party hat on his birthday!" he not only listened and remembered, but the word and the context imprinted themselves in his brain, waiting for the day his mouth would be able to say it. Is it just me, or is that utterly fascinating? Today he also rediscovered the joys of his complete set of Bear In The Big Blue House stuffed animals, courtesy of Grandma Nan. We haven't watched that show in months, and we haven't talked about the animals in months, but Nate greeted them all like old friends. "Beah! Ojo! Tutter! Treelo! Slide?"
Last night Nate enjoyed his first holiday with an official kids' table. Thanksgiving with five 2 year olds was about the rowdiest and most fun dinner we've ever been to. Nate especially enjoyed hanging out with his friend JoJo:
And, since we forgot to post it at the time, above is the only picture we got of Nate in his Halloween costume, hanging out at Daddy's office with his friends Hannah and Sara. It is posted above because I still haven't quite figured out how to make it post pictures where I want every time, and I'm too tired to deal with it now. Sorry!
