Nate woke up...in his big boy bed!! At 6 am, his usual waking time!! As he usually does, he called for us for a few minutes, then gave up and went back to reciting the alphabet and counting. At 6:15, Daddy went to get him and found Nate sitting in his bed, hanging out, delighted to see Daddy. So, in sum, night one was a huge success.
Naptime, however, was not quite as smooth. Nate dutifully drank his bottle and went to sleep. After about half an hour, however, he woke up. The impressive thing was that he then spent another 1.5 hours in bed, reciting the alphabet, spelling his favorite words (Nate and Bell System), and generally being a good boy. Eventually, though, he reached the point where he usually starts to protest for about ten minutes before falling asleep. Only since he could see that he clearly had an escape route, he decided to forgo the "falling asleep" bit and just climb on down. Only he hadn't quite gotten the hang of climbing down onto the stepstool all by himself, so he kind of fell a little bit. He was fine, though, once Mommy applied the Magic Kiss. So, in sum: nighttime good, naptime not so much.
Wish us luck tonight, and wish Krista luck with naptime tomorrow!
Update: Tonight I put him down, went off to the kitchen, put a bread pudding in the oven, stepped into the laundry room, and was just about to turn on the dryer when I heard someone behind me. There was Nate, holding a book and beaming. I put him back down. The second time he got up, I was right outside his door, and I learned that even when he's planning on getting down all by himself, he has the courtesy to say, "Down! Down!" emphatically. I just put him down for try #3. Good thing I already know how to do this from watching Supernanny.
